Shirley’s Florist has been a cornerstone of the Trussville community since its establishment in 1994 — founded by Shirley Carmack and her business partner/brother-in-law Johnny Monteabaro. With an outstanding reputation for top-quality flowers, stunning arrangements, and unbeatable personalized customer service, Shirley and her team are loved and adored by their community and loyal customers. Now, Shirley is beginning an exciting new chapter—spending more time with her family and traveling with her husband, Wade.
In 2018, Shirley’s Florist experienced a great loss as Johnny passed away. For the next six years, Johnny’s wife (also Shirley’s sister), Robin, stepped up to the plate and partnered with Shirley to continue building one of the most successful flower shops. In late 2024, Shirley made the decision to sell her business. She knew exactly the florist who would continue to carry out her legacy, care for and support her employees, and serve her loyal customers with the highest-quality designs and unmatched customer service: Norton’s Florist.
Of course, Norton’s Florist plans to do just that. As the brand changes, the team at Shirely’s Florist will remain the same—including Jasmine, the beloved shop cat! The same designers will be artistically crafting arrangements, and the same friendly drivers will be making deliveries with a smile. Norton’s Florist is excited to serve the Trussville community and keep their trust in Shirley’s Florist, which Shirley and her team have worked tirelessly to earn over the past 30 years.
Prior to opening her flower shop, Shirley was a part of the team at Norton’s Florist for 16 years, which makes this announcement truly a full-circle moment!
The late Gus Pappas of Norton’s Florist and Shirley have always been close friends. As Cameron Pappas joined the Norton’s team, their relationships (and flower shops) continued to flourish. They consistently maintained a “community over competition” bond throughout the Birmingham floral industry. Over the years, the florists have shared a spirit of camaraderie and mutual respect, guided by their shared passion for bringing people together with the beauty of flowers.
The goal at Norton’s Florist has always been “to spread love and joy with beautiful, fresh flowers and gifts.” When Shirley reached out about passing the torch, Cameron was honored by her trust and thrilled to carry forward her life’s work while expanding the shop’s reach in the vibrant, tight-knit Trussville community. There is nothing better than being able to deliver more flowers to more people.
At Norton’s Florist, we’ve been serving Birmingham for 104 years. As we welcome Shirley’s Florist into the Norton’s Florist family, we’re committed to preserving everything that has made it a beloved local institution. This partnership is about continuity and growth. We aim to honor Shirley’s unmatched reputation by bringing even fresher designs and a renewed energy to the Trussville community while maintaining the quality, care, and attention to detail that customers have come to expect.
To our loyal customers in Trussville, we look forward to continuing to serve you with the same dedication you’ve known for decades and welcoming new faces as we grow together. Thank you for letting us be a part of your celebrations, memories, and milestones.
Here’s to the next chapter, blooming brighter than ever.
